Oahu also called as O’ahu in native Hawaiian is one of the third largest islands on the archipelago of Hawaii and the name indicates a gathering place in native English. It is the most populated island of the state and is one of the most eminent tourist destinations of Hawaii. The capital of the state of Hawaii Honolulu is located on the eastern coast of Oahu and it is one of the most visited places in the Hawaiian Islands.

The overall geographic distribution of Oahu is variable and the total area that is occupied by the island is about 596.7 square miles which is approximately 1,545.4 km 2. There are some off shore islands that are included here as well and these include the Ford Island and the Kaneohe Bay.

This island ranks on number 20 among the large islands of the United States of America and is one of the largest volcanic islands of the area. Thee are two separate volcanoes called the Waianae and the Kooalu with a wide plain between the two called the central Oahu plain. The administration of Oahu lies within the City and County Council of Honolulu and although most of it does not lie on the ma within the same district, it is still being run by them.
